Level 4: Zero to 60: Fun Fitness Riding AdventuresBuild your cycling strength and endurance in this series of supportive, small-group fitness rides that gradually take you from riding zero miles to riding 60 miles. In this 3-session class, over three rides in the beautiful Lake Washington area, you'll find adventure, camaraderie, and new cycling abilities, all while learning how to communicate with motorists, be the boss of any road situation you encounter, and learn to ride as a group.
You don't have to be fast, strong, brave, or athletic to join. We all ride together. No one gets dropped. All it takes is a willingness to dig in and do something challenging. This class is for people who have successfully completed Level 3: Go By Bike: Get Anywhere on 2 Wheels. This ensures that you have the bicycle handling skills and the knowledge and traffic skills to be able to ride on roads with motorists. In the first session we'll do a 20-mile "Redmond Ramble," visiting scenic locations along the roads and trails in Redmond, learning how to ride as a group. We'll have frequent rest stops along the way, with a lunch stop as well. In the second session we'll expand our range and do a 40-mile "Eastside Tour" to take in some of the highlights our region has to offer. We'll stop often to rest, and have a lunch stop too. In the third session we'll really go for it with a 60-mile loop around Lake Washington. We'll start and end in Redmond, with our journey going through Bellevue, Renton, Seattle, Bothell, and Kirkland. We'll have plenty of rest stops, a lunch break, and a celebration at the end. Level 4: Zero to 60: Fun Fitness Riding Adventures consists of three sessions, dates below. You must be able to attend all 3 sessions. Each session will start at 9:30am, and will vary in length, depending on the speed of the group. Expect to be on your bike for up to 8 hours per session. For your success in Level 4: Zero to 60: Fun Fitness Riding Adventures, you will also get support in creating your own training rides to do between sessions. Working with you, I'll help you create an independent training schedule that works with your busy life, so that you can build up your stamina between each session so you're ready for our next ride. On our group rides, participants provide and carry their own water, snacks, and lunch. All participants must carry a tire patch kit, tire levers, and a spare tube (available at bike shops). If you're bringing your own bike, get it tuned-up at a bike shop before the first session so it doesn't break down on you. Except for fixing flat tires, I cannot perform bike repairs during our rides. All participants must have a contact person who can come pick you and your bike up if you or your bike breaks down. Level 4: Zero to 60: Fun Fitness Riding Adventures starts and ends in Redmond at the City Hall campus. We'll ride on trails and roads for all of our rides. Don't have a bike? No problem.
